Description
-
There are two men, one with his right hand raised and a large jug in the left, in the foreground with two smaller figures on horses father away near a train. In the background is a large mountain range, most likely the New Mexico Rockies, with a light blue sky above. All of these figures seem to be Native American men in the New Mexico/ Arizona desert area. This seems to be commenting on the New Mexico Rocky Mountains and the train travel that was brought non-native people to Arizona/ New Mexico area. The Native Americans appear at peace with the trains but there was turmoil among the Natives and other settlers. The raised hand of the one man symbolizes a halting signal, a resentment that may have been felt by the native people when white settlers intruded their land. Seeing as this is a travel poster, promoting travel to this destination, the raised hand could also present a friendly gesture.
