Cattle of the Inland, Australia. Particulars in Government, Shipping in Travel Offices
Description
The glow of the sun glares down on the midday travel of two stock-men and their large heard of cattle across the Australian Outback. At the foreground of the image there are numerous cattle traveling towards the viewer, crossing a shallow river. The heard, as they fade into the distance, transition into a single brown mass surrounded by the vast tan dry lands. On either side of the heard of cattle that is centered on the page there are scarce pieces of foliage, dried, leafless tress and towards the front right of the image a rock mass. Towards the center of the page and to the left of the cattle heard there is a stock-man riding a horse wearing white. Directly behind this man but further back is another man riding a horse, also presumably a stock-man. In the distance away from the heard there are plateaus rising from the flatland and braking into the skyline meeting with the sliver of blue-green sky at the top of the image. This image of the cattle heard crossing the Australian Outback is a depiction of a typical cattle drive. These cattle are most likely being guided by these stock-men across the Outback to a port city along the coast, such as Melbourne, where the cattle will be corralled onto a ship and taken across the ocean to be sold. The men in the image either work at or were hired by a cattle ranch in the Outback to safely transport their cattle to the seaside.
