In terms of Ellingson’s impact consider that he took office in 1936 and by 1954, RIT’s assets and endowment had quadrupled, and its budget had sextupled. He was President during RIT’s acquisition of the Empire State School of Printing and the School for American Craftsmen. He also oversaw the renaming of the institution from the Rochester Athenaeum and Mechanics Institute (RAMI) to Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in 1944. Ellingson serve as president of the Institute from 1936 to 1969.
